Historical Background
The origins and historical background of “Little Miss Muffet” are uncertain. One theory dates the rhyme back to the late sixteenth century and suggests that the rhyme was written by Dr. Thomas Muffet, a famous entomologist, for his stepdaughters. The rhyme was first published in 1805 in “Songs for the Nursery.”
